The Journey Behind CJ Stroud

At the heart of CJ Stroud’s journey is an unwavering faith in The Lord Jesus Christ and a deep belief in God’s grace, purpose, and plan. His story is one of perseverance, resilience, and using every challenge as fuel to create opportunities for others.

Professionally, CJ is an accomplished NFL quarterback for the Houston Texans and one of the league’s rising stars. Since entering the NFL as the second overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, CJ has quickly established himself as one of football’s brightest young leaders. His accomplishments include being named the 2023 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, PEPSI Offensive Rookie of the Year, a 2023 NFL Pro Bowler, and recipient of the 2024 Soulful Celebration Faith in Action Award. In just his first three seasons, CJ has helped lead his team to the playoffs each year, securing two divisional championships while continuing to set new standards both on and off the field.

Raised in Southern California and a proud graduate of Rancho Cucamonga High School, CJ’s journey began long before the NFL. During his three years at The Ohio State University, he became one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in program history, earning recognition as a two time Heisman Trophy finalist, two time Big Ten MVP, and setting multiple Ohio State quarterback records that still stand today.

Despite the accolades, football is only part of CJ’s story.

His passion for supporting single mothers comes from watching his own mother courageously raise CJ and his siblings through financial hardship as a low income single parent. His commitment to children impacted by incarceration is deeply personal as well. When CJ was 13 years old, his father’s incarceration forced him to navigate life’s challenges while learning resilience, discipline, and perseverance at an early age.

These life experiences shaped CJ’s mission and continue to drive his commitment to underserved communities, low income families, youth empowerment, and children facing adversity. He firmly believes every child deserves access to resources, mentorship, and opportunities regardless of their circumstances.

One of CJ’s favorite reminders is, “Comparison is the thief of joy,” a message that reflects his belief that every journey is unique and success should never be measured against someone else’s path.
